NSX-V (or NSX Data Center for vSphere) is the classic virtual networking platform vor vSphere. NSX-V addressed Security, Automation, and Application Continuity use cases in largely VMware-centric environments.
NSX-V is succeeded by NSX-T; if you are still running NSX-V in your datacenter, consider migrating to to NSX-T for more flexibility.
